Introducing of a Congestion Surcharge

The tense situation in the German North Sea ports and Rotterdam since the beginning of the year has been well known, and the blockade of the Suez Canal has exacerbated the situation.

The massive ship delays also have consequences for rail traffic:

  • Trains are refused by the Hamburg container terminals and are parked for a fee.
  • The rail loading is not carried out in the designated slots, so the scheduled departures cannot be reached.
  • Our trains run shortened or with empty spaces.

In order to compensate for these additional costs, we are forced to collect a congestion surcharge of 4% of the rail freight beginning with 26.04.2021 (date of departure).

This measure is limited in advance until 30.06.2021.
